AMES, IOWA – The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up the first day of competition at the 2017 Iowa State Classic and the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Friday night.
Over at Iowa State freshman Madison Meredith took fifth overall after running a time of 7.64 seconds. In the 200-meter dash senior Naiomi Dulaney turned in an indoor personal-best time of 25.11 seconds.
At GVSU redshirt freshman Gabrielle Collins had a personal-best distance of 19' 3.25" to win the long jump. It was the first time in her career she eclipsed 19'. Also in the jumps, senior Diajah Ruffin had a season and team-best jump of 37' 11.5" to take seventh place.
Junior Hanne Christensen had a personal-best in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:56.19, taking nearly 18 seconds off of her previous personal-best time and breaking the 10-minute barrier for the first time in her career.
Western Michigan is back in action at both meets on Saturday.
