KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Coming off the fourth-best meet in program history, the Western Michigan gymnastics team returns to the floor on Sunday at University Arena against Northern Illinois. The Broncos scored a 195.575 last week vs. Bowling Green for its first MAC victory of the season.
Last week
Rachael Underwood tied her season-high on vault with a 9.825. She tied with teammate
Brittany Aragon who set her career high with the 9.825.
Jessie Peszek scored a 9.750 or higher in all three events she competed in last week. She earned top-three finishes on bars (2
nd-9.825) and on beam (3
rd-9.825). She rounded out her day with a fifth place finish on bars with her 9.750.
Northern Illinois comes in with a 10-2 overall record and 2-1 in MAC competition. The Broncos visited DeKalb in the season-opener as part of a quad meet. In that meet
Anna Corbett won the vault event.
The Huskies come in with a Regional Qualifying Score of 194.110 while the Broncos come in with a near-identical 194.075. The scores will be used at the end of the season to determine the top-36 teams in the country to qualify for the NCAA Regionals.
Sunday's meet is also the team's annual breast cancer awareness meet. The first 500 fans will receive pink pompoms. At the conclusion of the meet there will be a "meet the team" autograph session on the floor.
