KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan women's soccer's Alex Ruffer has been voted Third Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Ruffer, a senior from Lombard, Ill., becomes just the second student-athlete in program history to earn Academic All-American Honors. She joins Anina Cicerone, who was a First Team selection in 2011, in sharing the prestigious honor. Ruffer boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA in finance and was also named CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District.

"This award is very well-deserved for Alex," said head coach Lauren Sinacola. "She is a committed individual that is always striving to bet better on and off the field. Since coming on campus as a freshman she was impactful on the field and continued to do the same in the classroom. It takes extreme discipline and commitment to be successful the way Alex has been at Western Michigan. To be the second player in program history to earn Academic All-American, it is a difficult task to earn and I'm extremely proud."

Ruffer played in and started all 19 games this season, scoring a goal and adding two assists. She helped the Broncos to 10 wins on the season, also helping her class become just the second in program history to experience double-digit wins all four seasons.
