GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Western Michigan hockey team dropped its third straight game after suffering a 4-1 loss at No. 6 North Dakota on Saturday night.

WMU's lone goal came from freshman forward Austin Rueschhoff. The Broncos (9-7-1, 5-3-0-0 NCHC) were outshot 25-20 and finished 0-for-3 on the power play. UND went 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

Western Michigan took a 1-0 lead at 8:33 in the second period on Rueschhoff's fifth of the season. Brett Van Os pushed the puck up to Rueschhoff and the big centerman took the puck into the slot and walked a defenseman to the net before burying it top-shelf. Van Os picked up his second assist of the season and second point of the weekend.

North Dakota tied it up on a goal by Nick Jones with just 23 seconds left in the second period. Grant Mismash fired a shot on net and Jones cleaned it up for his sixth of the season.

UND scored the game-winning goal just seven seconds into the third period. Josh Reiger won the draw and pushed it ahead to Cole Smith. Smith blew past the Bronco defense and netted his second goal of the season, giving the Fighting Hawks a 2-1 lead.

Hayden Shaw and Mismash added goals later on in the third period to seal the sweep.

Western Michigan returns home to host Miami on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 1-888-4-WMUTIX and online at WMUBroncos.com/tickets.
