SNEAK PEAK AT THE BRONCOS
With an overall record of 6-5, the Broncos are riding a two-game win streak after defeating Detroit Mercy and Kentucky State. Western Michigan has won four of its last five contests while three of those wins are coming by double digits. During the five-game stretch, the Brown and Gold have outscored their opponents 394-293 while shooting 44.3 percent from the field.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Following Tuesday's contest, the Broncos conclude their non-conference schedule and their four-game home stand on Saturday, Dec. 30 beginning Mid-American Conference play against Bowling Green in Kalamazoo, Mich. at 2:00 p.m.  
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos won their second consecutive game on Friday, Dec. 15 in a convincing 85-50 victory over Kentucky State inside University Arena. Three players scored in double figures highlighted by junior Breanna Mobley's 24th career double-double and her fifth of the season, as the forward poured in a game-high 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Sophomore Emma VanZanten just missed out on her first career double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Defensively, WMU recorded a season-high 20 steals while junior guard Deja Wimby added seven to tie a career-high. The Brown and Gold bench came to play as well, outscoring KYSU's bench 37-14.
 
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
Western Michigan is 46-26 when playing at University Arena under head coach Shane Clipfell, including an impressive 12-2 record in the 2014-15 season. Clipfell's team has never finished with a below .500 home record in five seasons. Clipfell and his squad are also 6-0 in home openers. The Broncos have opened up this season with a perfect 3-0 record.  
 
CHASING 100
In his seventh season overall and sixth with the Broncos, head coach Shane Clipfell is just a game away from notching 100 total wins. He holds an overall record of 99-96 heading into Tuesday's contest. Western Michigan has been on the rise since Clipfell took over the program prior to the 2012-13 season, as the Broncos have won 17+ games the last three seasons with Clipfell at the reins highlighted by a 20-13 record in 2014-15. WMU is coming off another successful season, notching a 19-13 overall record including an impressive 10-game winning streak during nonconference play. For the first time under Clipfell, the Broncos reached the MAC semifinals during the 2016-17 campaign defeating No. 1 seeded Central Michigan, 67-63.
 
MAC RPI REPORT
As a group, Mid-American Conference women's basketball currently sits eighth in the country in the latest RPI report according to the RpiRatings.com Poll. Eight total teams represent the conference in the top-100 breakdown as the Broncos rank 85th behind Buffalo (17), Ball State (40), Toledo (46) and Central Michigan (78). The three remaining teams include Miami, Bowling Green and Ohio.
 
POST UNIT
The frontcourt, also known as the "Post Unit" by the team, has been dominating this season, as Breanna Mobley leads the team at 15.5 points per game and Marley Hill is second at 11.1 per game. The two are also first and second on the team in rebounding, as Mobley leads the way with 8.5 and Hill is at 5.5. Mobley is also getting national attention as the forward is 24th in the country and second in the Mid-American Conference with four offensive rebounds per game.
 
THE MATCHUP
Tuesday's contest between Western Michigan and Goshen College will be the eighth meeting between the two schools. The Broncos lead the all-time series 4-3 against the Maple Leafs with the last meeting occurring back on Jan. 20, 1976 as WMU took an 81-43 victory at Goshen.
 
SCOUTING THE MAPLE LEAFS
Goshen College is coached by seventh year head coach Stephanie Miller, who was named Crossroads League co-coach of the year in the 2015-16 season after the team advanced to the Fab Four of the NAIA Division II National Tournament for the first time in program history. The Maple Leafs bring a 1-12 overall and a 0-4 away record into University Arena and are led by senior Carley O'Neal who scores 9.9 points per game while freshman Keyaira Murff leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game.
