KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan senior left tackle
Chukwuma Okorafor was named a First Team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) on Monday, Dec. 11.
Okorafor becomes just the third Bronco ever to earn All-American status from the FWAA and only the second to be named to the First Team. Wide receiver
Corey Davis was a First Team selection last year while offensive lineman
Taylor Moton was named to the Second Team.
The FWAA announcement is Okorafor's fifth All-American recognition over the past week. He earned Second Team All-American honors from the Walter Camp and
Sports Illustrated and was named Honorable Mention All-America by
SB Nation and
CollegeFootballNews.com.
The 6-6, 330-pound Okorafor has been a three-year starter for Western Michigan and is a two-time Mid-American Conference First Team selection. Headed into 2017 he was named the No. 4 tackle to watch in the nation by Mel Kiper. Okorafor has drawn much attention from NFL Scouts this season and was named 1 of 6 semifinalists for the Outland Trophy.
The Broncos have had one of the top rushing offenses over the last three years. WMU ranked 29th in the nation in 2015, 24th in 2016 and 23rd in the nation this season, averaging 224.8 yards per game. Seven different players rushed for 26 touchdowns.
