KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team landed two student-athletes on the CoSIDA Academic All-District V team on Thursday afternoon. Alex Ruffer was named First Team All-District V and Maria Jaramillo was named Second Team All-District V.
Ruffer holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in finance and because she is a First Team selection, will move on for voting for Academic All-American. The senior forward started and played in all 19 games this season, scoring a goal and adding two assists as Ruffer joined her fellow seniors as just the second class in program history to reach double-digit wins all four seasons. The Lombard, Ill., native is just the second student-athlete in program history to earn First Team honors, joining Anina Cicerone in 2011.
Jaramillo holds a 3.98 GPA in bio chemistry. The senior defender helped post eight shutouts on the season while starting and playing in 18 games. Jaramillo also added a goal and two assists on the season.
This is the third time in program history the team has had two student-athletes named Academic All-District in a single season. To be eligible a student-athlete must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher and have competed in at least 50-percent of team's games on the season.
