KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Fresh off of two weeks of rest, the Western Michigan cross country team has its sights set on the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship, which will be held Friday, Nov. 10 in Terre Haute, Ind.

"The Great Lakes Region is one of the most competitive in the country with a lot of great teams," commented WMU associate head coach
Taryn Sheehan. "This will be another opportunity for our ladies to show off all the hard work they have put in this season. All seven girls are prepared for Friday and are fired up and confident after our performance at the MAC Championships. I am excited to see what they can do."
The Broncos are coming off a memorable Mid-American Conference Championship race, as senior
Hanne Christensen became the first Bronco to win the MAC Individual Title since 1993. The entire squad finished seventh overall with a 164 team score with many runners breaking individual records.
Junior
Sarah Anderson finished with the team's second-best performance time of 21:27.6, good for 14
th place. Senior
Claire Gilbert recorded a PR crossing the finish line in 17
th with a time of 21:33.7. Rounding out the top-five for the Broncos was freshman
Juliane Sormain with a PR time of 22:40.5 and sophomore Birittney Hall who crossed at 23:38.6.

The race will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course with the women scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. A total of 34 teams will be participating on Friday including Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Wisconsin, who all rank in the nation's top-30 in coaches' poll released by the USTFCCCA. As a squad, the Broncos need a top-two finish to guarantee a spot at the NCAA Championships on Nov. 19.
The seven WMU runners that will represent the Brown & Gold this weekend include Anderson, Christensen, Gilbert, Hall, Lewis, McNamee and Sormain.
