Hockey Stumbles Against No. 18 Colgate

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team had its four-game winning streak snapped after a 5-1 loss to No. 18 Colgate at Lawson Ice Arena on Saturday night.

CU's Bobby McMann had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Raiders, while goalie Colton Point made 36 saves to hold the ninth-ranked Broncos (9-5-1) to just one goal. Freshman forward Austin Rueschhoff was the lone goal scorer for WMU.

Jared Cockrell gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead just 1:41 into the game. McMann then scored two straight goals at 5:08 and 13:58 in the first period to push the lead to 3-0.

McMann opened the second period with a hat trick at 6:00 to put the lead at 4-0 before Rueschhoff banged in a rebound on a shot by Cam Lee to cut the lead to 4-1. The assist was Lee's fifth of the season, while Aidan Muir also picked up an assist, his seventh of the season.

Jacob Panetta added a late power play goal to push the final score to 5-1.

Western Michigan jumps back into National Collegiate Hockey Conference play, heading to No. 3 North Dakota on Friday at 8:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 8 p.m.  Both games can be seen live on NCHC.tv.
