Broncos Return Home for Match-Up with Northwood Saturday

Myrtle Beach for a match-up with Northwood on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 2:00 p.m.

Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan is 2-3 on the season and returns home after playing four games in seven days at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Through five games, WMU is averaging 77.8 points per game and shooting .437 from the field. The Broncos lead the Mid-American Conference from beyond the three-point line with 41 threes'.  

Last Time Out
In the final game of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off the Broncos squared off with South Carolina for the second time in six days. WMU trailed by just one at halftime but was unable to overcome a second half surge by the Gamecocks, falling 79-66. USC embarked on a 17-2 run to start the second half and outscored WMU 44-32 in the second half.  

Wilder One of the Nation's Best
Senior guard Thomas Wilder is proving to be one of the nation's best early this season as Wilder ranks first in the NCAA in total steals with 16. The Montgomery, Ill., native also ranks eighth in the NCAA in scoring with 104 points. Wilder is one of just ten players in the NCAA to have 100 total points through five games.   

Non-Conference Home Dominance
Since the 2003-04 season, the Broncos are 59-14 in non-conference home games. Since 2012, WMU is a staggering 22-4 in non-conference home contests. The Broncos have won three straight non-conference home games and overall are on a seven game home winning streak.  

Home Sweet Home
WMU has won seven straight home games dating back to last season. It's the longest home winning streak since winning 14 straight from 2013-14 to 2014-15.

Broncos Ranked in the NCAA
As a team, the Broncos rank in the top 25 nationally in multiple categories:
• Total Steals (46) – 5th
• Free Throw Attempts (117) – 16th
• Total Rebounds (184) – 25th

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
In every game this season, WMU has had at least three score in double figures. The Broncos have nine players with at least 10 points this season, the second most in the MAC.

Inside the Numbers
Over the past two seasons when scoring 70 or more points, WMU is 29-15 … when scoring over 80 points, the Broncos are 20-7 … Since last season, the Broncos are 14-3 when holding a halftime lead … WMU has outscored its opponents, 212-192 in the second half … Western Michigan received 25 votes in the latest edition of the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

Scouting Northwood
Northwood is 2-2 on the season with victories over Indianapolis and Walsh University. The Timberwolves are averaging 72 points per game while shooting 37 percent from the three-point line. Northwood is coming off a 61-57 loss at Cedarville on Monday. In two contests against NCAA Division I opponents this season (Central Michigan and Nebraska), the Timberwolves have averaged 66.5 points.   

What's Next
WMU will hit the road for a match-up with the Billikens of Saint Louis on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Tip-Off is set for 8:00 p.m. and can be seen on Fox Sports Midwest. The Broncos will then return home for back-to-back home contests against Oakland (Dec.2) and Cleveland State (Dec.6).  

WMU Tabbed as Preseason MAC Favorite
As voted on by the leagues' head coaches and media, the Broncos are the favorite to claim the MAC Tournament championship with 10 votes WMU received 22 of 30 first-place votes to repeat as MAC West champions.

Many Preseason Awards for Wilder
Returning for his senior season Thomas Wilder was named Preseason All-MAC west by the league's head coaches and media. Wilder was also named to the All-High Major Third Team by College Sports Madness and was added to the Lou Henson Player of the Year Award Watch List. The award is given annually to the nation's top Division I mid-major player.
