OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Western Michigan volleyball's Sydney LeMay has been selected as one of 30 volleyball players from across the country as a candidate for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed down to 10 midway through the season and then voted on by coaches, media and fans. LeMay is the lone student-athlete to represent the Mid-American Conference. She is a three-time First Team All-MAC selection and a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree. LeMay has been a fixture in the community, helping out with Special Olympics, making blankets for Hospice patients, helped out with local elementary schools, participated in donating and moving food at Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes and has been a fixture volunteering at Kalamazoo Ministry and Community

The Senior CLASS winner will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in December. Information on all 30 candidates can be found at seniorCLASSaward.com.
