Central Michigan was tabbed to repeat as MAC Regular Season Champions with 10 first place votes. Toledo, Ball State, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan round out the West Division. In the East, Buffalo was voted to finish first with 10 first place votes while Kent State, Ohio, Miami, Bowling Green and Akron round out the division. The Chippewas were picked to also become the MAC Tournament Champions with 10 first place votes while the Broncos, Cardinals, and the Bulls also received a vote.

Junior Breanna Mobley is the first Bronco to be named to the Preseason All-MAC West Division Team since Miracle Woods for the 2015-16 season.  The forward placed her name all over the Bronco record books, averaging 14.4 ppg, 9.9 rpg and 0.7 bpg. She set a single season WMU record with 307 rebounds and had the fourth highest field-goal percentage in a single season (.568), finishing with 13 double-doubles and scoring in double-figures in 23 games. The Lansing, Mich., native made her mark on the conference as well, finishing 15th in scoring, second in overall rebounds, third in field-goal percentage and tied for the MAC lead in offensive rebounding (4.4 rpg).

Last season, the Broncos finished 19-13 overall and 8-10 in the MAC including an impressive 10-game winning streak in the nonconference season. The record falls just two shy of tying the school record for wins (21) set in 1978 while the win streak is the fourth longest winning streak the program has ever seen and longest in the last 20 years. The winning season is the third straight winning season for WMU, which hasn't happened in over 10 years. WMU advanced to the MAC semifinals for the first time in Bronco history since the 2003 season after erasing a six-point deficit with 1:20 left to play, defeating top seed Central Michigan, 67-63, in the MAC quarterfinals.

Western Michigan will face Lake Superior State on Friday, Nov. 3 in an exhibition game with tipoff slated for 7 p.m. The Brown & Gold officially open the season on Friday, Nov. 10 as the Broncos travel to New Mexico.
