"Maik had a fantastic tournament with our best showing in singles in the regionals," added Morin. "His successful run has given him a lot of confidence and should also elevate his play as well as the expectations of his teammates.
Eric Olivarez and
Nick Schnobel also played fantastic in doubles play this weekend advancing to the quarterfinals."
During the semifinals earlier this morning, Steiner was able to push the match to a third set after winning 6-3 in set two. Michigan's Leo Hua proved to be too much for the senior taking the third set 6-2, eliminating Steiner.
Following the five-day tournament, the senior went 4-1 in the singles main draw at the University of Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center. Steiner finished in the top four of a field of 128 competitors, including both the main draw and the qualifiers, while defeating two nationally ranked opponents in No. 110 Kyle Seelig from Ohio State and No. 91 Myles Schalet of Michigan. He now holds a team-high 11 wins this season after dropping just three matches this year.
The Broncos represented well in the doubles main draw during the tournament after going 7-3 overall, highlighted by
Eric Olivarez and
Nick Schnobel advancing to the quarterfinals. The pair dropped their first match of the season together on Friday afternoon, falling to Ohio State's Joyce and McNally in the quarterfinals. The juniors are now 5-1 overall in doubles play.
The entire Bronco squad is back in action at home for the Mid-American Conference Invite running from Friday, Nov. 10 through Sunday, Nov. 12, the team's final competition of the fall.
