AUSTIN, Texas – Former Western Michigan men's basketball standout Tucker Haymond was selected 37th overall by the Austin Spurs of the NBA G League.
During his career at WMU, Haymond averaged 12.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 123 career games. The Seattle, Wash., native finished his career ranking eighth at WMU with 1,545 points and also totaled 586 rebounds and 233 assists.
"I am blessed to have an opportunity to play and learned from such a prestigious organization," said Haymond. "I am excited to play and can't wait to get out on the floor."
Haymond is one of 19 players all-time to finish with 1,000-plus points and 500-plus rebounds and is one of only four players at WMU to record 1,000-plus points., 500-plus rebounds and 200-plus assists.
In his senior campaign, he was an integral part of the Broncos claiming their ninth MAC West Division title and was a Third Team All-MAC selection. Haymond played a team-high 32.7 minutes per game, while averaging 14.9 points and shooting .456 from the field.
Haymond ended his career at WMU with 24, 20-point games along with one 30-point game. As a freshman the 6-6 guard helped WMU to a 2014 MAC Regular Season and MAC Tournament championship.
Haymond was the first overall pick by the Austin Spurs in the second round (37th overall). The team also selected Southern Illinois' Anthony Beane and South Florida's Cory Allen.
Previously known as the NBA Development League ("D-League"), the G League is the NBA's official minor league, preparing players, coaches, officials, trainers and front-office staff for the NBA while acting as the league's research and development laboratory. The G League features 26 teams, which are singly affiliated with NBA franchises.
