Women's Soccer Gets Crucial Win at Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team earned a crucial 2-1 road win at Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos (9-7-1, 4-5-1 MAC) got second-half goals from Grace Labadie and Kendall Juhnke, while Stephanie Heber made four saves to help stay alive in search for a spot in the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

"Today was a really fun game to be a part of," said head coach Lauren Sinacola. "Both teams battled the entire 90 minutes and momentum went back and forth all game long. I'm very proud of the team to bounce back the way they did after a tough loss at Eastern Michigan. We still have a lot to go after for the season and we will get back to work to prepare for a strong Northern Illinois team."

After a scoreless first half, WMU wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the second. Colleen McKay battled for possession of the ball in the 48th minute and whipped a cross into the box that was finished by Labadie to give Western Michigan a 1-0 lead. The goal was Labadie's team-leading fifth on the season.

The Broncos scored off another cross in the 57th minute when Maria Jaramillo crossed the ball after a short corner from the right side of the field and Juhnke headed it in for her first of the season.

Central Michigan cut the lead in half after a goal by Marle Bringard in the 74th minute to put pressure on Western Michigan.

The Bronco defense held strong to secure the win. CMU outshot WMU 13-12 overall and the teams tied in shots on goal at 5-5. Labadie had a game-high four total shots and a game-high three shots on goal. The Chippewas held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

WMU closes out the regular season at NIU on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET.
