PORTAGE, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team sits in second place after two rounds of play at its home course, The Moors Golf Club, heading into the final round of the KZoo Classic.
The Broncos combined for a 36-hole total of 618 (+42) on Monday after shooting a 307 in the morning and a 311 in the afternoon. Bowling Green leads at 601 (+25), while Central Michigan sits just three shots behind WMU at 621 (+45). Ohio is in fourth place at 630 (+54), followed by defending champions Eastern Michigan at 6437 (+61) and Wisconsin-Green Bay at 647 (+71).
"We put ourselves in a position to compete for the top spot tomorrow," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "I saw a lot of good golf shots being played out there today. We are looking to play focused for 18 holes tomorrow."
Senior Julia Champion sits tied for third with a two-round total of 149 (+5). Champion had been tied in first after the first round with teammate Claire Hernandez after each shot an even-par 72. Hernandez now sits alone in sixth place at 151 (+7). Sophomore Jasmine Chee is just outside the top 10, tied for 11th with a 155 (+11) after shooting a 78 to open and dropping a stroke for a 77 in the second round.
The final round begins on Tuesday morning at 9 p.m. Trophies for winners will be handed out after the conclusion on Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.
