Sophomore
Jannik Opitz was selected to participate in the Qualifying round of singles today after winning his first three matches before falling in the round of 32 to Oklahoma State's Mathieu Scaglia, late Sunday. The loss was Opitz's first singles loss of the season and he just didn't have enough energy to last today, falling in the first round to UCLA's Logan Staggs.
His counter partner, sophomore
Kennosuke Nouchi, was selected to participate in the Qualifying round but was defeated by East Tennessee State's Robert Herrera.
In Qualifying doubles play, the duos of
Maik Steiner/
Eric Olivarez and Nouchi/Opitz both won their round of 64 match but as luck would have it, the two teams faced each other in the next round. In the final round of the afternoon, Steiner/Olivarez would take the match (6-3, 3-6, 10-8) and will play again tomorrow for a chance to qualify for the Main Draw doubles rounds.
