KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan senior cross country runner Hanne Christensen has been named the Mid-American Conference female Scholar Athlete of the Week.

This past Saturday, Christensen was crowned the individual champion of the 6K Black Race at the Pre-National Invitational in Louisville, Ky. The senior finished first overall in a field of 261 runners with a time of 20:48.5 and it is the third consecutive race she led the Broncos when competing this season. The overall finish is also her second this season with the other win occurring at the George Dales Invite on Sept. 8.

It is the first time this season Christensen has earned the Scholar Athlete honor but was named MAC Runner of the Week back on Sept. 13 after her performance at the George Dales Invite. She maintains a 3.66 GPA and is studying creative writing.

The Broncos are back in action this Friday, Oct. 20 at the EMU Fall Classic in Ypsilanti, Mich. The race will be the last competition for WMU before the MAC Championships in Oxford, Ohio, on Sat. Oct. 28.
