Men's Soccer Faces Green Bay and West Virginia

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The No. 13 ranked Western Michigan men's soccer team takes on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex. At the end of the week on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. the Broncos travel to play West Virginia in a Mid-American Conference showdown.

WMU has gotten off to a great start in MAC play, first by defeating the defending conference champions Akron for the first time since 2014 and then turning in a dominating 5-0 performance against Northern Illinois. The Broncos currently sit atop the MAC in first place and are the only undefeated team in the conference. This is the first time since 2003 that the Broncos have started conference play 2-0. WMU is ranked first or second in the MAC in every offensive statistical category. The Broncos are first in assists per game (2.35), points per game (6.35), scoring offense (2.0), shots per game (16.21), shots on goal per game (7.21), total assists (33), total goals (28) and total points (88). WMU is second in corner kicks per game with 5.79. The Broncos are also ranked in the top-20 in the country in several categories. WMU is 10th in assister per game, 9th in shots per game, 9th in shots on goal per game, 7th in total assists, 8th in total points, 7th in won-lost-tied percentage, 16th in points per game, 19th in scoring offense, 13th in shutout percentage and 12th in total goals.
 
ACCOLADES
 
The Broncos have produced several great performances over this year. Several members of the team have gained national attention for their performances. Last week redshirt junior goalkeeper Elijah Michaels became the third Bronco to be named to TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the week, joining senior midfielder Brandon Bye and senior forward Jay McIntosh. Bye and Michaels have both been named MAC Player of the week this season. McIntosh was also named NCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Week back in late September. Bye was named College Soccer News National Player of the Week on Sept. 11 after tallying seven points off three goals and an assist during the week.   
 
SCOUTING UW-GREEN BAY
 
The Phoenix will be entering the game with a 5-3-3 overall record and a 4-1-1 record in the Horizon League. This will be the 26th meeting between the schools, the last was in 2015 a game the Broncos won 2-1. Audi Jepson leads the Phoenix with 19 points off seven goals and five assists. Tomer Zioczower is first in the Horizon league and 18th in the nation in assists with seven.  In goal for Green Bay is Nikola Kahvedzic who has made 32 saves on the year and has a .711 save percentage. Kahvedzic is allowing 1.34 goals per game this year. Green Bay averages 10.5 shots per game with .496 of those landing on goal.
 
SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA
 
The Mountaineers are 7-3-4 overall this year and are 0-0-2 in MAC play. West Virginia was selected to finish second in the MAC at the beginning of the year. The Mountaineers have been ranked as high as No. 14 during this season's campaign. This is only the sixth meeting ever between the schools. West Virginia leads the series but WMU won last season's game 2-1. Leading the Mountaineers with 12 points is Albert Andres-Llop with five goals and two assists. Second in scoring is Jad Arslan with four goals. Stephen Banick is in net for West Virginia and has recorded five shutouts this season. Banick is allowing 1.07 goals per game and has a .692 save percentage. The Mountaineers average 10.8 shots per game with .311 of those being on goal.

WMU will host SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. as a part of Big Bronco Tailgate.
