BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Western Michigan women's team finished up play at the Hoosier Classic on Sunday afternoon going 3-2 overall in singles play, the team's first tournament this season.

"I thought we got better each day of the tournament," commented WMU head coach
Ryan Tomlinson. "We started a little slow for our first tournament of the fall but I thought Barbare and Denise played good tennis competing in higher flights than they've ever been."
In the final day in Bloomington, the Broncos got three wins in three separate singles flights. Redshirt senior
Barbare Eristavi defeated Indiana's Caitlin Bernard improving her record to 2-1 this season. Junior
Denise Azcui won her second-straight singles match defeating Ioana Guna of Cincinnati holding a 2-1 record after the weekend while sophomore
Gabriela Slavova notched her first win of the season after defeating Eastern Michigan's Renu Sharma.
After the first tournament of the fall season, Azcui and Eristavi lead the Broncos in singles play with 2-1 records. Freshman
Jeryn Jack and Slavova each tallied wins on the weekend to begin the season. Doubles team of Azcui and Lyubomirova hold a 2-2 record to lead the Broncos after wrapping up the final day of the Hoosier Classic.
The Broncos will take next weekend off before participating in the ITA Midwest Regionals in Ann Arbor, Mich., running from Friday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 15.
