KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan head men's soccer coach
Chad Wiseman has announced the program's 2017 spring slate of exhibition games.
"The spring schedule comes with some great challenges when you look at programs like Notre Dame, Valparaiso, Oakland and Detroit," commented Wiseman. "This spring is going to be different for our players and staff than in the past. Our leadership needs to continue to grow which will happen when we put our players in different environments. We know we have talent and competition at every position and will certainly continue to develop that talent. We also have a couple dates where we will have split squads and everyone will have a chance to play a full 90 minutes. It is looking like a fun and exciting spring season."
The Broncos begin the spring schedule hosting the Seelye Invitational, a 9 v 9 indoor tournament on Saturday, Feb. 25. In the three-team event, Western Michigan will be paired against Davenport and Cornerstone inside the Seelye Indoor Center. Davenport enters the spring after falling in the 2016 NAIA National Championship semifinals in penalty kicks while Cornerstone finished third in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference behind DU.
The Broncos will visit Detroit on March 17 inside the Legacy Center in Brighton, Mich. Western Michigan travels to South Bend, Ind., to face Valparaiso and Notre Dame, who finished 2016 ranked No. 14 in the nation on April 1. Finishing up its spring road stretch, Western Michigan will face Oakland University at the Ultimate Soccer Arenas on April 8.
Wrapping up the spring season, the Broncos welcome two more NAIA opponents of Spring Arbor and Lawrence Tech on Friday, April 14. Both exhibition matches will be played inside Waldo Stadium.
All spring events are open to the public and feature free admission.
