Ben Blacker Named NCHC Goalie of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.. – Western Michigan freshman Ben Blacker has been named Bauer National Collegiate Hockey Conference Goalie of the week after his performance in WMU's sweep of Colorado College over the weekend.

Blacker went 2-0 with a .966 save percentage and a 1.0 goals against average. The Oakville, Ontario native was also the team's top penalty killer as the unit went a perfect 12-for-12 in the two games. In Friday's 4-2 win he matched a career high with 32 saves, including 11 on five Tiger power plays. On Saturday he made 25 saves to post his third shutout of the season and earn his eighth win.

This is the second NCHC Goalie of the Week award for Blacker, who has also twice been named NCHC Rookie of the Week and is the reigning NCHC Rookie of the Month.  He has appeared in 11 games and made 10 starts with an 8-1-0 record. Blacker sits third in the nation with a 1.67 goals against average and is fourth in save percentage at .939.

Blacker and the Broncos currently sit in third place in the NCHC and head to Miami for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game marks the season debut for WMU on CBS Sports Network at 7 p.m. Saturday's game can be seen live on NCHC.tv. The Broncos return home on Feb. 3 and 4 to host Arizona State.
