KALAMAZOO – The Western Michigan hockey team broke through in both national polls this week, calming the 14 spot in both the US College Hockey Online and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls on Monday.
WMU (10-5-3, 4-5-1-1) is fresh off winning the 2016 Great Lakes Invitational and heads into a bye week before hosting No. 3/4 Denver on Friday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 14. The Broncos defeated Michigan State in the GLI Semifinals, 4-1, and then went on to beat hosts Michigan Tech in overtime, 1-0, in the championship game.
The 14 spot is the highest Western Michigan has been ranked in the USCHO.com poll and sit just one shy of matching its highest spot of the season in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. The Broncos have now been ranked in seven consecutive polls.
