KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team continues its trek through the Big 10, heading to Indiana University and the Gladstein Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Last weekend the Broncos saw improvements while competing at the University of Illinois' Illini Classic. WMU took two event titles with Sarah Anderson winning the 600-meter run and Ayiana Gaines winning the long jump.

"I keep forgetting that since she's been around for two years that it's her first go-round at indoor track," said head coach Kelly Lycan on the redshirt freshman Anderson. "She did a great job in winning that 600 race and then was good dropping down in distance and running anchor on our 4x400 relay team."

Another improved Bronco was senior Lindsey Hufnagel. Hufnagel, who had not seen action in almost two years due to injuries, had two personal-best performances in the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash.  In the hurdles she finished with a time of 8.75 seconds and took fifth place, while she also ran a time of 25.44 to take sixth in the 200.

"I thought Lindsey really ran very well," Lycan added. "She's worked so hard to get back where she is and it was great to see her really compete well."

The competition begins on Friday afternoon and continues into the evening with a mix of field and running events. WMU is set to compete in the triple jump, high jump, 400-meterd dash, 60-meter hurdles, mile run and 5,000-meter run. Events begin on Saturday morning with the long jump and then on to the 400-meter dash, 600-meter run, 800-meter run and the 4x400-meter dash. The Broncos will also have throwers competing at Grand Valley State Open on Friday night.
