"It's always a challenge to go on the road and play anyone, especially these two programs," commented WMU head coach Ryan Tomlinson. "We have to control what we can control and play high-percentage tennis. There was no doubt that we were rusty last week. We played much better in our second match of singles so that was positive to see. The doubles point is a big point and we have to play better doubles overall this weekend to be successful."
The Broncos opened up the spring season in an impressive way, earning wins over Oakland (6-1) and Valparaiso (7-0) last Saturday, Jan. 14, at home at the West Hills Athletic Club. Highlighting the pair of victories, Western Michigan claimed both doubles points while senior Barbare Eristavi improved to a team-best 13-1 singles record after the two wins on Saturday. Sophomore Denise Azcui pushed her winning streak to seven straight on Saturday, which is a team-high.
Both Indiana and Notre Dame kick off the 2017 spring season this weekend welcoming the Broncos. Following the tough road matches, the Broncos return to home action on Saturday, Jan. 28, hosting IUPUI at West Hills Athletic Club.
