KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's basketball team announced its full Mid-American Conference (MAC) schedule that features the normal 18-game lineup, with nine home and nine away games to follow the team's tough non-conference schedule.

"It's always fun to get the conference schedule as it signifies that we are inching our way to the start of the new season," fifth year head coach Shane Clipfell said. "The MAC does a good job of balancing the schedule year in and year out. One of the first things I always look at is do we play our final regular season at home. This year we do and that is significant because of the way our conference tournament is set up."

The Broncos, who finished last season 17-15 and 8-10 in the MAC, open the conference season with a home game against Akron on December 31. A couple of big MAC East tests in the conference schedule will come on Jan. 25 at Ohio and Jan. 28 with Buffalo at home. Ohio went 26-7, 16-2 in the MAC last season and Buffalo won the MAC Tournament as a No. 8 seed. WMU will close out the season with back-to-back home games against rival Central Michigan on March 1 and Northern Illinois on March 4 before the MAC Tournament starts on March 6 at campus sites.

"The other thing I am anxious to see is who the crossover games are with the East Division to determine who we play twice on their side," Clipfell said. "This year we will play Akron and Bowling Green each twice which are both formidable foes of course, but also games that are decent travel opportunities for our fans. I've always thought the parity in our league is as good as any league in the country and it was shown as the No. 8 seed won our conference tournament last year. I look forward to a conference race that should be very tight from beginning to end."

WMU kicks off the 2016-17 season with a home game against Davidson on Sunday, Nov. 13. WMU also has B1G foe Michigan State coming to town on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
