KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team will be sending the duo of senior Matt Hamilton/junior Maik Steiner to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Invitational after the two were selected into the qualifying doubles draw.
Hamilton/Steiner are set to begin play in Tulsa, Okla., with two matches on Monday, Oct. 3 and possibly more if the team wins. The two are the only members of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) to make the qualifying draw or pre-qualifying draw. The two finished 27-6 overall and 5-1 in the MAC last season. They started the season 10-0 together and won 14 of 15 doubles matches from Feb. 5 to April 10.
Along with Hamilton and Steiner at the ITA All-American are senior Daniel Loebel and sophomore Matej Svjetlicic as all four were selected in the prequalifying singles. Following last season's MAC Tournament Championship, Hamilton and Steiner were named to the All-MAC team while Loebel was named to the All-MAC Tournament team.
The rest of the team will be competing at the Toledo Rocket Invitational from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. Follow the Broncos on Twitter @WMUMensTennis for all updates about the team!
