CLEVELAND -
Darius Phillips the MAC West Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday for his performance against Georgia Southern on Saturday in the Broncos 49-31 win over the Eagles to improve to 4-0.
Phillips had his second special teams score of the season on Saturday night, with a 100-yard kick return for a touchdown against Georgia Southern. He is just one of four players in the country this season to return a kickoff 100 yards. He previously scored on a punt return against North Carolina Central. Coming into Saturday's game, Georgia Southern had allowed only 9.0 yards per kickoff return, a feat Phillips trumped. It is the third kickoff return for a touchdown in his career after having one each of the previous two seasons. The 100-yard return tied his career-high, previously set against Michigan State last season.
This is the second time this year Phillips has earned Special Teams Player of the Week after also doing so against North Carolina Central.
