KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team heads to East Lansing, MIch., and Forest Akers West Golf Course for the 33rd annual Mary Fossum Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
The Broncos are fresh off a season-debut at the Cardinal Classic that saw them finish in third overall and break the program 54-hole low record of 855. Senior Kaitlyn Watkins broke the individual 54-hole low record after shooting a 214 and was named Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week.
WMU is no stranger to the Mary Fossum Invitational and last season the team had its best finish ever at the tournament, taking fifth with Watkins and Claire Hernandez tying for 19th.
"Forest Akers is a great golf course and tests all aspects of the game," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mohser. "Coming off a great weekend at Ball State I am excited to see what the team will do in East Lansing. We will have a good game plan going into the first round and stick to our process throughout."
The team will play 36 holes on Saturday, followed by the final round of 18 on Sunday.
