BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team finished up play at the Hoosier Classic, the team's first tournament this season, by crowning one Flight Champion in senior Barbare Eristavi.
"We had a good last day today as Eristavi had a great tournament by winning her flight," head coach Ryan Tomlinson said. "Denise Azcui, Melina Lyubomirova and Katja Fevralev did a nice job of bouncing back after taking losses yesterday. Overall we had a great weekend of tennis with a lot of bright spots and a lot of things to work on as well."
Eristavi earned a hard-fought 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) win over Caroline Morton of Cincinatti in the Flight Three Championship to open her final season at WMU with a perfect 3-0 record in singles. The Broncos sent senior Tracy Kuhle, junior Olivia Myers and senior Meika Ashby to Flight Championships as well, but all three were taken down in their final match of the tournament.
In other matches throughout the day, sophomore Melina Lyubomirova earned a win in Flight One, sophomore Katja Fevralev won in Flight Two and sophomore Denise Azcui won in Flight Three.
Doubles play ended on Saturday, with the duo of Ashby/Eristavi falling in the championship. The Broncos will take two weekends off before hosting the Bronco Invitational from Friday, Oct. 7 to Sunday, Oct. 9. Follow the Broncos on Twitter @WMUWomensTennis for all updates about the team!
