BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After a successful day two of the Hoosier Classic, the Western Michigan women's tennis team will send four members of the squad to compete for Flight Championships on the final day.
"We had another good day, we started well with much better doubles play," head coach Ryan Tomlinson said. "Barbare Eristavi and Meika Ashby had a nice tournament by getting to the doubles final. We have a finalist in each of the top four flights tomorrow. We look forward to competing and getting better tomorrow with more match play."
In Flight One, senior Tracy Kuhle will compete for a championship after earning a tough 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 win over SIU-Edwardsville's Mia Frogner. Junior Olivia Myers defeated Kim Schmider of Indiana to move to the Flight Two Championship while Eristavi moved on to the Flight Three Championship with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Pauline Jahren of Indiana. Lastly, Ashby defeated Taylor Culbertson of Wright State 7-6, 7-5 to move the Flight Four Championship.
In doubles play, Eristavi/Ashby went to the Championship with a win in their opener, but fell to Indiana's Appel/Schmider. Myers/Katja Fevralev as well as Denise Azcui/Kuhle earned a win in their opening matches on Saturday before dropping their second matches.
