KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan cross country team will head to East Lansing, Mich., on Friday, Sept. 16 to take part in the competitive Spartan Invitational at 12:30 p.m. for the second meet of the young season.
"Every meet in a cross country season is like a stepping stone getting ready for the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships," head coach Kelly Lycan said. "With this being just our second race of the season, if anyone didn't do something like they wanted the first time, they can go out and try to change it. Starting faster, more aggressive or whatever it may be, this is a chance to change how we work."
Two weeks ago at the 2016 George Dales Invitational, the Broncos fell to reigning MAC Champion Eastern Michigan by a score of 16-45. The Broncos highest finisher came in fifth place as junior Hanne Christensen crossed the finish line with a time of 18:06.59. Sophomore Sarah Anderson came in eighth (18:41.25), junior Claire Gilbert ninth (18:50.21), senior Amy Littlefield 13th (19:35.83) and freshman Holly Blowers in 14th (19:41.56) rounded out the Broncos top-5 finishers.
This weekend's race is a 6K, rather than a 5K like the George Dales Invitational. Also, there will not be any team scores recorded.
