OOSTENDE, Belgium- The Western Michigan men's basketball team improved to 2-0 on its European tour, defeating Duva Gistel, 81-76, on Thursday, Aug. 25.

Junior Drake LaMont led six Broncos in double figures with 16 points. Thomas Wilder tallied 14 points and freshman Jared Printy knocked down three 3-pointers on his way to 11 points. Western Michigan got up early at halftime, 42-25, but then had to weather a late push by Duva Gistel. Up five with just over three minutes to go, sophomore Bryce Moore came up with back-to-back big plays for the Broncos. Moore buried a three on the offensive end and then came up with a steal on the defensive, pushing the ball ahead to Seth Dugan for a dunk on the break, helping WMU build its lead back up to 10.

"Game two was really good for us, as was game one," said WMU head coach Steve Hawkins. "Game one was really get our legs under us and see what we can do. Tonight we played well early against a good young team.

"We started turning the ball over too much at the end of the second quarter and that continued some into the third quarter. I thought Duva Gistel also caught their stride after the half. There are a million things if this were the regular season we would have done different as far as adjustments and so on, but it was good for us to have to win the way we did. This game was much more like a Mid-American Conference game. They ran good sets and were very organized."

Western Michigan returns to the floor Friday night against Waregem. On Saturday, Aug. 27, the Broncos make the trek from Ghent, Belgium into France by bus, first settling in the Normandy region, Aug. 27-28, before heading to Paris to close out the trip, Aug. 29-30. While in Paris, WMU plays its final game on Aug. 29 against Sceaux. The Broncos begin their return to the United States on Aug. 31.

The game format was four 10-minute quarters.
