CLEVELAND -- Western Michigan women's soccer junior center back Maria Jaramillo has been named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the weekend sweep over Fort Wayne and Indiana.
Jaramillo helped the Bronco defense allow just one goal on the weekend and just three total shots on goal. She was key to keeping possession away from Fort Wayne in the 2-1 overtime win, holding the Mastodons to just seven total shots.
In Western Michigan's 2-0 win at Indiana on Sunday Jaramillo assisted on the game-winning goal. The Colombian international played a corner kick into the box that was volleyed in by Kendall Juhnke to give WMU a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute. She also helped lock down the Hoosier attack, which was held to just two shots on goal.
Jaramillo and the Broncos are back in action on the road on Sunday when they take on No. 13 Notre Dame at 5 p.m. The game can be seen live on ESPN3.com as a part of the ACC Network Extra.
