KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan volleyball team defeated the Bronco Alumnae team 3-2 (25-16, 13-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-11) at University arena on Saturday evening in the team's final tune-up before heading to Notre Dame for the Golden Dome Invitational on Aug 26-27.
Four former Broncos suited up for the alumnae team, which also had assistant coach Kyle Stahl and several current members of the team filling in the gaps. Former Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year Lena Oliver, three-time First Team All-MAC selection Jessica Brown, Ali Gossen, who ranks in the top-10 in career kills, and Caroline Rose competed hard for five sets.
The two teams traded sets until the fifth and final set. Tied 10-10, an attack error by Brown gave the Broncos an 11-10 lead. Kills by Alysia Baznik, Kate Carey and an ace by Bailey Schnell put the match out of reach for the alumnae team.
Western Michigan hosts Fort Wayne on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. for its regular-season home-opener. Tickets can be purchased at wmubroncos.com or by calling 1-888-4-WMUTIX.
