KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan redshirt junior goalkeeper
Drew Shepherd has been named to the All-Great Lakes Region Third Team by the NSCAA. Shepherd becomes the third Bronco to earn an all-region recognition this season. Juniors
Zach Bock and
Brandon Bye were named to the Second Team yesterday.
"Drew continues to prove himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the country," said WMU head coach
Chad Wiseman. "His work rate, leadership and ability to make big saves in big moments are certainly game changers for our program. Drew has been so much fun to coach, he continues to get better in all areas of our program each year."
Shepherd started 18 games in goal, logging over 1,667 minutes. He made 43 saves and allowed 17 goals for a 0.92 goals-against average and a .717 save percentage. He faced a total of 138 shots and posted six shutouts. He was the keeper of record in all but one game this season and was in goal for all nine wins.
Shepherd was a Second Team All-Mid-American Conference selection this season and a First Team selection last year. In 2015 he led the nation in goals-against average.
"Drew is an extremely self-motivated individual, who always puts the team first," Wiseman added. "What he is doing on the field, in the classroom and within our community is impressive. I am very proud of all his achievements."
