KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team was picked to finished sixth in the Mid-American Conference according to the league's preseason coaches poll. The Broncos earned a first place vote, joining six other schools with exactly one first place vote.
Western Michigan returns six of its seven athletes (
Anna Corbett,
Kelsey Hood,
Jessica Juncaj,
Audry Merritt,
Jessie Peszek and
Rachael Underwood) who qualified for NCAA Regionals at Iowa last season, which was a program record. Of the six returners who qualified for the NCAA Regionals, five of them were also on the Academic All-MAC squad.
The team begins its 2017 season in less than a month, on Jan. 8, at Northern Illinois when it takes part in a quad meet against NIU, Lindenwood and Iowa. The Broncos' first home meet is a week later on Jan. 15 when they host Central Michigan.
