Iacopelli and Gorsuch Earn NCHC Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After sweeping Miami, Western Michigan hockey's Matheson Iacopelli and Trevor Gorsuch both earned National Collegiate Hockey weekly honors with Iacopelli earning Offensive Player of the Week and Gorsuch claiming Goalie of the Week.

Iacopelli netted four goals and an assist on the weekend. In Friday's 6-3 win he netted two goals in the third period to extend WMU's lead to 5-3 and then 6-3. He also assisted on Frederik Tiffels' game-tying goal in the second period. On Saturday he netted two more goals, including the game-winner, in the 5-2 win over the RedHawks. Iacopelli now has nine goal on the season, including a NCHC-best five in conference play.

Gorush made 17 stops in Friday's win. On Saturday he made 29 saves, including 11 on the penalty kill, in the 5-2 win. Gorusch was the team's top man on the PK, helping the group shut down Miami on its 11 power plays. Then penalty kill unit on the weekend went 15-for-17 thanks to Gorsuch's performance.

This is the first NCHC honors for both Iacopelli and Gorsuch.

Western Michigan is back in action at No. 1 Minnesota-Duluth on Friday and Saturday.
