Men’s Soccer Drops Regular-Season Finale to Akron

AKRON, Ohio- Western Michigan men's soccer will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament after falling to Akron on the road Saturday, 3-0. The Broncos conclude the regular season with a 9-4-3, 1-1-3 MAC record.

Akron's win over WMU clinched the regular-season championship for the Zips, who will be the No. 1 seed and host of the conference tournament. Western Michigan will get another crack at Akron in the second semifinal game next Friday, Nov. 11. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Bowling Green took the No. 2 seed and faces No. 3 Buffalo in the first semifinal at 4 p.m.

"We were just over matched tonight," said WMU head coach Chad Wiseman. "Akron was able to find its rhythm and movement early in the game which made it very difficult. Our youth and inexperience showed tonight. Having already qualified for the MAC Tournament, we will have to use today's match as a learning experience."

Akron held a 1-0 lead at halftime after a Stuart Holthusen goal in the 18th minute. Holthusen struck again in the second half, extending the Zips' lead to 2-0 in the 63rd minute. Ezana Kahsay tallied Akron's third goal in the 86th minute.

WMU goalkeeper Kyle Taalman faced 14 shots and made seven saves for the Broncos.
