KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan women's tennis opened day one of the WMU Super Challenge with a 5-3 record in singles play to go along with a 5-3 record in doubles after one round of singles and two rounds of doubles were played at Sorensen Courts Friday afternoon.

In singles play, senior Barbare Eristavi improved to 10-0 this season with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Gutierrez of Indiana. Senior Meika Ashby moved to 9-1 this season while sophomore Denise Azcui improved to 8-2 with a win as well. Junior Olivia Myers earned a win in comeback fashion, beating Abbot of DePaul 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 while sophomore Katja Fevralev improved to 5-3 this season with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Schober of Cleveland State.
In doubles, the duo of Ashby/Melina Lyubomirova went 2-0 with wins over teams from DePaul and Cleveland State. Myers/Azcui, Tracy Kuhle/Eristavi and Fevralev Gabriela Slavova all went 1-1 on the day.
Saturday will run the same format as Friday, with one round of doubles starting at 11:30 followed by one round of singles and the final round of doubles. Sunday will conclude with the final round of singles starting at 11 a.m.
