Community Send-off Set as the WMU Football Team Heads for Detroit

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The 2016 season has been historic for the Western MichiganUniversity Football Program. As the No. 13 ranked Broncos take their perfect 12-0 record into the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship Game in Detroit on Friday night, a community send-off is being planned in Downtown Kalamazoo on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

"Head Coach P.J. Fleck and the WMU Football Program have brought immense pride to the greater Kalamazoo region during the 2016 season," said Greg Ayers, president and chief executive officer for Discover Kalamazoo. "Their performance on the gridiron and throughout the community has been exceptional. This is our opportunity to salute and wish the team well as they head to Detroit for the MAC Championship Game."

The motorcade for the WMU Football Team is expected to pass through the central business district between 12:15 and 12:30 pm. Bronco Fans are invited to line Michigan Avenue, with an emphasis between Rose and Portage Streets. "One of the goals of our football program under PJ's leadership has been to unite our Community with our University and our football team," said Monty Porter, WMU senior associate athletic director. "The tremendous success of our team as this season has gone along has allowed our Community to rally around our team and has fueled our players and coaches with an atmosphere and energy that is proving hard to beat. We very much appreciate and value the support we have received. As we've promoted through the weeks of the season, this community send-off is another shining example of Our Town. Our Team. Let's ROW Kalamazoo!"

Fans are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing Broncos gear, waving flags and signs and letting the team know it is completely behind them as they go for their first MAC Football Championship since 1988 when the Broncos take on the Ohio Bobcats on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Ford Field in Detroit.

Tickets to Friday night's championship game are still available for purchase through the Ford Field Box Office.
