Alyssa Burke and Liz Abro Named All-MAC

CLEVELAND – The Western Michigan women's soccer team had two student-athletes earn All-Mid-American Conference Honors with sophomore midfielder Alyssa Burke named First Team All-MAC and senior midfielder Liz Abron named Second Team All-MAC.

Burke finished the conference season tied for fourth of the league in total points with 12 on four goals and four assists. Her four assists tied her for second in the MAC. The Davison, Mich., native was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals in a road sweep at Bowling Green and Toledo. She also had a goal and an assist in a win over Eastern Michigan, and assists in wins over Ohio and Buffalo. This is the first All-MAC honors for Burke.

Abro finished the MAC season tied for sixth in points with 11 on four goals and three assists. The Troy, Mich., native scored goals in wins over Eastern Michigan and Toledo, while also tallying in a loss to Kent State. Abro was the general of the Bronco midfield and played a full 90 minutes in five conference games this season, also playing 100 minutes in a 0-0 tie against Akron. This is also the first All-MAC honors for Abro.

Western Michigan is back in the MAC Tournament Semifinals for the fourth straight year after defeating Miami, 1-0, in the quarterfinals on Oct. 30. The Broncos will take on eight-seeded Northern Illinois, who upset No. 1 seed Miami, on Friday at 4 p.m. at Kent State's Dix Stadium.
