Women's Basketball Looks to Win Third Straight at NDSU

GET CAUGHT UP

The Broncos (3-2), who have suffered both losses this season to B1G teams, will head to Fargo, N.D. for the first time in school history on Wednesday, Nov. 30. The Broncos have won two straight games after sweeping the UMKC Plaza Lights Classic in Kansas City, Mo. WMU first defeated the host Kangaroos 66-54 and then downed Eastern Kentucky 74-59. Redshirt junior Marley Hill was named the MVP of the tournament while sophomore Breanna Mobley was named to the All-Tournament Team. At the UMKC Plaza Classic, Hill averaged  18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while Mobley averaged a double-double with 13.0 points and 10.0 rebounds.

SECOND HALF DOMINANCE
In their games won this season, the Broncos have outscored their opponents 128-91 in the second half including a 61-44 margin in the third quarter and 67-47 in the fourth quarter. WMU is 1-0 when leading at the half and 3-0 when leading after three quarters this season. Last season, the Brown & Gold finished 11-3 when leading at halftime and 15-2 when leading after three quarters. 

STAT SHEET STUFFER
Sophomore point guard Deja Wimby has done a little bit of everything for the Broncos through five games this season. She's averaging 6.8 ppg and leads the team with 5.8 assists and leads the MAC with 2.6 steals per game. She is also third on the team with a 6.6 per game rebounding average. In the final game of the UMKC Plaza Lights Classic, Wimby finished with eight points, eight assists, eight rebounds and six steals. 

THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE
Over the last two games, WMU shot 85 percent (33-for-39) from the free-throw line, going 15-for-17 at UMKC and 18-for-22 vs. Eastern Kentucky. The Broncos are fourth in the MAC in free-throw percentage (.723) currently, after finishing in 10th place (.671) last season. Junior Aneisha Carlisle is 8-for-9 this season while redshirt junior Marley Hill is 15-for-18 and senior Meredith Shipman is 9-for-12.

THE MATCHUP
This will be the second ever matchup between the Broncos and the Bison and the first meeting Fargo, N.D. WMU won the only matchup 74-59 on Nov. 19, 2014 in Kalamazoo. The Broncos got out to a quick start in that game, outscoring the Bison 39-24 in the first half. 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Bison, who are coached by Maren Walseth in her third season, come into this game at 1-5 overall and 1-1 when playing at home. In their last time out, the team fell at the hands of MAC foe Central Michigan 77-55 in the Cal Poly/ShareSLO Holiday Tournament. The team is led by junior guard Taylor Thunstedt, who averages 15.3 ppg and leads the team in 3-pointers made (21) and steals (8). Senior forward Emily Spier scores 10.3 ppg and grabs a team-leading 8.7 rebounds per game.
