In singles play, the Broncos swept the competition finishing 8-0 as all eight members of the team earned a win to open the day, including freshman Gabriela Slavova, who earned her first career singles win with Western Michigan. Senior Barbare Eristavi stayed unbeaten this season at 4-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Chiara Berg of Green Bay while five other Broncos moved to 3-1 this season.
In doubles play, WMU once again finished with an 8-0 record winning all four matches in the first and second rounds. The duos of senior Tracy Kuhle/sophomore Melina Lyubomirova, sophomore Denise Azcui/sophomore Katja Fevralev, senior Meika Ashby/junior Olivia Myers and Eristavi/Slavova all opened the season 2-0 as doubles partners, as none of these duos competed together at the Hoosier Classic three weeks ago. Slavova is the lone member of the team who has yet to drop a doubles match, as her record is a perfect 5-0.
The action will pick up again on Saturday at Sorensen Courts with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. The Invitational will conclude on Sunday with one final round of singles play. Admission to all home tennis matches is free.
