KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team crowned one flight champion Friday in the 2016 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Invitational as junior Billy Heckman/sophomore Eric Olivarez went 3-0 in doubles to win Flight Two.

Three rounds of doubles were played on Friday at West Hills Athletic Club, as the Broncos finished with a 9-6 overall record on day one. Two rounds of singles will be played on Saturday with one final round played on Sunday.
Heckman/Olivarez earned wins over teams from Binghamton, Toledo and Buffalo to improve to 3-0 together this season, this being the first time they've played with each other. Both duos of Matt Hamilton/ Nick Schnobel and Daniel Loebel/Kennosuke Nouchi went 2-1 on the day, as Loebel/Nouchi fell in the Flight One Championship. Teams of Steiner/Opitz and Svjetlicic/Knof went 1-2 on the day.
Play will begin on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at West Hills Athletic Club, where all attendance to home tennis matches is free.
