COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three players will battle for a chance to make the Main Draw of the ITA Midwest Regional on Friday, which is being hosted by Ohio State. Senior Daniel Loebel, sophomore Eric Olivarez and freshman Jannik Opitz all went 2-0 in the Qualifying Round on Thursday, putting themselves one win away from the Main Draw.

Loebel, who is the No. 12 seed in the Qualifying Round, opened his day with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Radosevic of Cleveland State and topped Schramm of Green Bay in comeback fashion, 1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-0. Olivarez improved to 9-1 this season with wins over Dahan of Youngstown State and Anderson of Marquette while Opitz, the No. 2 seed, stayed perfect this season at 9-0 with wins over Garreto of Youngstown State and Russell of Northern Illinois. Sophomore Nick Schnobel earned a win in the opening round, but fell in the second round to Zordani from Wisconsin. Sophomore Kris Knof also competed on Thursday, but dropped his only match of the day.
With a win on Friday, Loebel, Olivarez and Opitz will move on to the Main Draw where teammates Matt Hamilton, Maik Steiner and Matej Svjetlicic have earned spots to. The final round will start at 8 a.m. on Friday, with one round of the main draw singles and doubles to follow.
Teams representing Western Michigan in doubles are No. 14 seeded Steiner/Opitz, Loebel/Hamilton and Billy Heckman/Schnobel.
