KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team will travel to one of its biggest fall tournaments this weekend in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Regionals, hosted by Ohio State. The tournament, which features a qualifying singles draw, main singles draw and a doubles draw, will run from Thursday, Oct. 20 and go through Monday, Oct. 24.

The tournament will get started on Thursday with the opening two rounds of qualifying singles, which features 64 total competitors, four of which are from WMU. Freshman Jannik Opitz, who has started the season a perfect 7-0, was award the No. 2 seed in the qualifying draw. Sophomore Kris Knof earned the No. 9 seed while senior Daniel Loebel earned the No. 12 seed. Sophomore's Eric Olivarez and Nick Schnobel will also be competing in the qualifying draw, which will send eight winners to the main draw.
The main draw will get started on Friday with one round and run through the rest of the tournament. Three Broncos will represent the team, including senior Matt Hamilton who will face a qualifier, junior Maik Steiner, who will face No. 15 seeded Seidman from Northwestern and sophomore Matej Svjetlicic, who will face No. 6 Joyce from Ohio State. The main draw also features 64 total competitors
Same as the main draw, the doubles draw will get started on Friday and end on Monday. Teams representing Western Michigan are No. 14 seeded Steiner/Opitz, Loebel/Hamilton and Billy Heckman/Schnobel.
