KALAMAZOO, Mich.- For the first time in school history, the Western Michigan football team is ranked in the
Associated Press top 25 poll, taking the No. 24 spot this week. The Broncos made their first appearance in a major poll last week, where they were voted No. 25 in the
USA Today Coaches Poll. WMU jumped two spots in the coaches poll this week to No. 23.
Western Michigan is off to a 6-0 record, its best start since the program went 8-0 in 1941. The Broncos are one of six teams to become bowl eligible this past week, joining Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Washington and Texas A&M.
The Broncos have been bowl eligible in each of the last three seasons under fourth-year head coach
P.J. Fleck. Dating back to last season, Western Michigan is 13-2 over its last 15 games and has won eight games in a row. The team's eight-game winning streak is the third longest active streak in the country behind Alabama (18), and Washington (9).
WMU is also currently the only team in the country this year yet to commit a turnover.
Western Michigan heads to Akron this weekend, facing the Zips for the first time in three years. Kickoff Saturday, Oct. 15, is at 3:30 p.m., on the CBS Sports Network.
